100ish

100 words about nothing — and everything.

  1. Two remotes.

    Not one, but two.

Susan wasn’t sure how the household ended up with two remote controls but she found them - under the cushions while looking for her lost ring.

The ring was a birthday present that she bought herself. It was the only present this year that was not a huge disappointment.

The remotes were a reminder. The so-so birthday, the lost ring and the fact that now the house has twice as many remote controls to lose under the cushions of the couch.

They can go live with her ring: under the couch where she will eventually find it.

  2. The headphone stand had one job.

HOLD THE HEADPHONES OFF THE DESK

There were reasons to do this: more space, less chance of cord disasters and less damage to the headphones.

Dave always, always left his headphones on his desk. You would walk by his desk and there would be the headphones, the stand and no Dave.

Of course, the headphones were nowhere near the stand and the stand was well, out standing all alone in the corner of the desk waiting for Dave to come back and maybe next time he would remember to put the headphones where they belonged:

    Home.

  3. the mouse needed batteries again.

    It always needed batteries.

The little progress bar in the system monitor basically told me “your mouse if fucked” if you don’t do something about it.

The problem with finding batteries for a mouse is that you are always in the middle of work when your mouse dies.

You don’t get notified when it’s convenient. There should be a little message that pops up on your phone:

hey! your mouse battery is going dead. you should change it soon.

Nope, it dies - mid paragraph - just as you found that writing flo

  4. I think this came with a coffee subscription we had about ten years ago now from Oakland Coffee. The subscription is long gone because we cancelled it because: money.

Heck, Folgers is pricey now, I can’t imagine what a pound of coffee is now from them.

WAIT. I was searching for them and couldn’t find them and that’s because they renamed themselves PUNK BUNNY COFFEE.

This means my mug is now a collectors item.

I checked and a LB of coffee from Punk Bunny is about $15.00 while the Folgers works out to be about half that in price.

I drink a lot of coffee so despite the cup, it’s still folgers for me.

    Meanwhile, on the internet…

  5. I’m old enough to remember when socks were white, black, and maybe argyle and a few colors.

Now? I can get SpongeBob socks.

It’s my point that socks for casual are whatever and then formal should be black with black shoes.

    Unless you’re Audrey Hepburn.

    From Always in Fashion

I think of two things when I put on a pair of white socks (which is only with sneakers and for a workout). The first is my mother’s sure-fire sign that a man was a loser: white socks with dress shoes. The only man I’ve found who did that was my date for the eighth grade school prom. He was thirteen. The second is the story about Audrey Hepburn and the white socks she wore in “Funny Face”.

I have no doubt I too wore white socks in grade 8.
